Recently, Austin Monthly released their yearly Best Schools in Austin issue and it had some interesting findings. Some of the ratings aligned with what we see on sites like Great Schools and others were slightly different. The rankings from Austin Monthly Magazine’s lists were based on findings from Texas non-profit, Children at Risk. Every year, this children’s advocacy group publishes a “best schools” list. They rank public schools in all four of Texas’ major metros. Here, we’ll show you their findings for the top 25 public high schools in Austin.

Methodology Behind Top 25 Public High Schools in Austin Selection

To make the list, Children at Risk looked at public, charter and magnet schools in the Austin metro area. They assigned a letter grade to each school and also ranked them compared to other schools in Texas. You can learn more about the methodology behind their selections here. The list was for 2022-2023 school year and came out in January 2024.
