Hot Dog Anyone?

January 21, 2011 By Chris Williamson

While looking for a place to grab a quick bite between appointments in South Austin yesterday, I remembered Man Bites Dog in the South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery.

Man Bites Dog Menu

Be prepared to spend a few minutes checking out their menu and finding your signature dog. You’ll find unique combinations like a chicken dog with corn relish and pesto mustard (Bird Dog), a pork sausage wrapped in ham and swiss cheese (The Cuban) and even a beef dog with blue cheese crumbles and buffalo wing sauce (Buffalo Hottie).

Man Bites Dog claims they have a dog for every person and I believe they’re right. Hey, they even have a veggie dog.

My Man Bites Dog Order

Although I usually go for something different when I try a new truck, I was really hungry had limited time, so I decided to stick with something I know and love… the Chicago Style dog. Man Bites Dog calls this their Abe Forman.

Abe Forman

The Abe Forman is a Vienna beef frank with yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, tomatoes, dill pickle spear and celery salt. Everything you would find on a real Chicago Style Dog and nothing you wouldn’t, like ketchup allowed. The Abe Forman turned out to be an excellent pick and definitely hit the spot. The bread was lightly toasted, the beef dog was cooked to perfection and the combination of ingredients really set the dog off.

Man Bites Dog Location

Location: South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery, 1311 S. 1st St., Austin TX 78704

Being in the South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery (next to Torchy’s), there is plenty of parking and plenty of places to sit. They’ve even built a new indoor eating area so you don’t have to get take out when the weather isn’t cooperating. Its the perfect location if you’re meeting a group, or just want a place to enjoy your food while its hot.
