Top 10 Android Apps for Home Buyers

February 9, 2013 By Rebecca Jacks

Your Android phone can be a huge help when you’re out looking for houses. Several developers have come up with some pretty good apps to help Austin home buyers in their search for homes. Here are the top 10 Android Apps for home buyers.

#1: Quick Mark

Price: FREE

These barcodes are popping up everywhere lately – real estate signs, flyers and even Sephora! The idea is, you take a picture of the barcode with your phone and it will send you to a website. Like clicking a link online. You need an app for your Android to be able to know what its seeing. QuickMark is one of my favorite apps.

Once you download Quick Mark, you can easily scan the QR codes throughout this post to find the apps in the Android Market.

#2: Smarter Agent

Smarter Agent is a tool Austin home buyers can use to see the homes that are currently on the market. What’s cool about this app is you can search nearby homes wherever you are. Your phone’s GPS determines where you are and returns a list of nearby homes for sale.

And – you not only get homes currently for sale, it shows you what has recently sold too.

#4: Suburb Scout

Price: $1.99

Suburb Scout is an app that searches for possible neighborhood nuisances like airports, sewage plants, nuclear plants, landfills and prisons. If you’re relocating, or aren’t familiar with the area, this app may be helpful.

Google Maps comes standard on most Android phones, so you probably already have it installed. The new Google Maps app is especially helpful when you’ve gotten yourself turned around from driving through a neighborhood and need to get out or when you’ve printed a list of homes you want to drive by and are looking for directions.

Price: FREE

Where is helpful when you’re looking to figure out what amenities are around a house you like. You can find anything from nearby news, movies, events, gas prices and even coupons for local businesses and real time reviews. With this app, you can quickly explore the area without leaving the home you’re in.

The Yelp app is a mobile version of the popular site, Yelp.com. Similar to Where, you can search for nearby restaurants, bars, entertainment and nightlife. Yelp is definitely a more visited site in the restaurants and entertainment category, so if you’re looking for a place to grab lunch in between looking at houses or are curious what coffee shops are in the area, this one is your best bet.

austin home buyer mortgage calculator android app#8: Karl’s Mortgage Calculator

Price: FREE

This app is especially useful if you’re trying to figure out how much a house is going to cost you every month. Maybe you’re in a house you really love that’s a bit more expensive than you’d expected or maybe you’re starting your home search and are curious what your home payment would be like. Either way, this app is great for the person who needs to know their numbers.

#9: iHandy Carpenter

Price: $2.99

Are you someone who likes to take measurements? Check if the floor is level? Or even determine the angle of the mantle? If you frequently find yourself in need of a steel ruler, spirit level, surface level, plumb bob or steel protractor but aren’t really the type to carry these things around, this app is for you.

#10: Evernote

Price: FREE

austin home buyer note android appThis one has got to be one of my favorites. When I’m out looking at homes, there are things I want to remember about each of them, maybe even take a picture or two and add a note, but don’t want to carry around my phone, a camera, and a piece of paper. Then load all of this in my laptop and make notes after the fact. With this app, I can write a note, take a picture and even use it as a voice recorder – all with the same device I have to carry around everywhere anyway.
