Faubion Elementary School is closed. The Leander ISD board voted 5-2 on December 17, 2025 to close the campus at 1209 Cypress Creek Rd. in Cedar Park at the end of the 2025-26 school year, citing low enrollment and a district budget shortfall. No home is zoned to Faubion anymore. Under the rezoning plan the board approved on February 5, 2026, former Faubion students who live in the Cedar Park Middle School zone now attend Westside Elementary, and those in the Henry Middle School zone attend Reed Elementary. What Happened to Faubion Elementary School?
Faubion opened in the fall of 1975 as Leander ISD’s second elementary school. It was named for Ada Mae Faubion, who taught in Leander ISD for more than 40 years and came from one of the founding families of Leander and Cedar Park. The campus served early education and Pre-K through 5th grade and had 376 students in its final year, 2025-26, including 118 in Pre-K. About 40.7% of students were economically disadvantaged, 30.6% were emergent bilingual and 25.5% received special education services. The school celebrated its 50th anniversary in November 2025.
Enrollment had been falling. Leander ISD projected 233 students for 2026-27, about 26% of the building’s capacity, while the district faced a $12.8 million budget shortfall. The board voted 5-2 on December 17, 2025 to close Faubion, with Trustees Paul Gauthier and Trish Bode opposed, and the district projected the closure would save about $800,000. A farewell Legacy Walk open house was held on May 18, 2026.
Faubion’s final Texas Education Agency ratings:
- 2018-19: B (83)
- 2021-22: C (75)
- 2022-23: C (74)
- 2023-24: C (71)
- 2024-25: D (69)
- 2025-26: C (72), with a Targeted Support and Improvement designation
The building will get a new use. Leander ISD plans to move New Hope High School, the district’s alternative high school program, to the Faubion site. On January 22, 2026 the board voted 6-1 to hire Pfluger Architects to design the project, and construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 using funds from the voter-approved 2023 bond. The Faubion name also continues: the district’s first early childhood center, which opened in fall 2026 at the southeast corner of Halsey Road and San Gabriel Parkway, is named the Ada Mae Faubion School for Early Childhood and serves 3- and 4-year-olds in Pre-K and early childhood special education.

Where Former Faubion Students Go Now
The reassignment is by home address and follows middle school feeder lines. Former Faubion addresses inside the Cedar Park Middle School zone now attend Westside Elementary, and former Faubion addresses inside the Henry Middle School zone now attend Reed Elementary. The board approved this plan, known as Scenario B, on February 5, 2026 so that elementary boundaries line up with middle school feeders. Leander ISD published walking, biking and scooter routes from Buttercup Creek to Westside along Buttercup Creek Boulevard to Nelson Ranch Loop, with a crossing guard at Lakeline Boulevard. Students who were enrolled at Faubion could also request either Reed or Westside as a transfer with the fee waived through May 29, 2026, though transfers do not include transportation.

Middle and High Schools for the Former Faubion Area
Because the split follows middle school lines, each former Faubion address has one path through middle and high school. Westside-side students attend Cedar Park Middle School and then Cedar Park High School. Reed-side students attend Henry Middle School and then Vista Ridge High School. Leander ISD’s 2023 high school rezoning let some students stay at their previous high school, and that grandfathering ended with the class of 2026, so for 2026-27 all grades follow the current high school zones.
