Manchaca, pronounced MAN-chack, is a small southwest suburb of Austin. Manchaca is unincorporated and is home to a few thousand people. Manchaca grew in the late 1800s with the addition of the International-Great Northern Railroad. The city became a shipping point for cotton, grain, lumber and posts. Since the railroad days, Manchaca has increased and decreased in population over the years as the area around it has grown tremendously.
