Top 3 Austin Dog Parks

September 2, 2012 By Chris Williamson

As Austinites we know there is not a more fun filled city to live than Austin. The same may go for your 4 legged pal as well. There are plenty of great dog parks in and around Austin to take your pooch to, but which is the best? Here are the top 3 dog parks that will really get that tail waggin.

Top 3 Austin Dog Parks

Auditorium Shores Austin Dog Park

#1 Auditorium Shores – 920 W. Riverside Drive

Auditorium Shores is one of the premier concert spots in Austin but also a premier area for your doggie to get a little exercise. This is the go to place for your dog to run free and mingle with the other pooches in the neighborhood. There is plenty of green space and leash free areas between South First Street and Bouldin Avenue. If your pooch enjoys water, they can swim from the banks of Town Lake.

The downside is that it can get a little crowed with all the joggers and bikers on the trails around Town Lake. If you and your doggie enjoy controlled chaos, Auditorium Shores will definitely be your favorite.

#2 West Austin Park and Wading Pool – 1317 W. 10th St

Redbud Isle Dog Park AustinIf you need a little more order in your pooch’s life, the West Austin Park and Wading Pool in Austin’s Clarksville Neighborhood is great. It is fully fenced and perfect if you have a young pup. The park is not widely known by a lot of Austinites, which means it’s not super packed. There is fresh running water to fill up the community dog bowls, lots of trees and relaxing lounge chairs in the shade. The park is on the smallish side but very easy to keep an eye on your dog.

#3 Red Bud Isle – 3401 Red Bud Trail

Red Bud Isle is a small peninsula on Town Lake and the perfect park if you have a water dog. The entire park is leash free so your dog can run and swim freely. The park is small but big enough for your dog to have a good time. This is another park where chaos can occur but definitely a park for you and your pooch to check out.

Hi Rick, They really do a fabulous job with their coffee. If you are even in Austin, you should stop in. Their moon milk is what really makes the drink. How’d you find Summermoon in Arizona?

Those are great dog parks. I love the dog park on Riverside near I-35 because it is fenced and has play areas for small dogs as well as large dogs. There are two great dog parks in Bastrop County too! One in Bastrop and one in Smithville!
