Austin Ranks 8th Best Foodie City for Your Wallet

October 21, 2014 By Rebecca Jacks

Austin has long been known as a great foodie city, with many of the nation’s top chefs opening restaurants. Today we have bonus news for foodies on a budget, Austin was just named the 8th Best Foodie City for Your Wallet by WalletHub. Austin is no newcomer to “best of” lists, notably 3rd Coolest City in the US, Fastest Growing City in the US and Best US Cities for Jobs.

What Criteria Did WalletHub Use to Make this List?

WalletHub analyzed the 150 most populated US cities to find the most economical foodie cities in the country. They say they used “18 key metrics, ranging from the cost of groceries to the number of restaurants per capita” in their report.

Austin Ranks 8th Best Food City for Your Wallet

Looking strictly at affordability, Austin ranked #1 on the Best Food City for Your Wallet out of 150 US cities, which is pretty impressive. When you factor in the remaining 17 metrics, Austin dropped to #8 on the list, which is still an applaudable spot considering New Orleans is only one spot ahead of Austin.

Considering a Move to Austin?

I am sure you’ve read all sorts of Austin’s Accolades and know how cool of a city it really is. One of the big reasons we chose Austin was because of it’s affordability. No it isn’t the cheapest place to live in the US, but it is one of the least expensive “cool” cities. We relocated to Austin about five years ago and couldn’t be happier. If you are looking for a Realtor who really understands what you’re going through and who knows the city better than a local, we might be the right people for you.
