Are you a hipster with more money? You might be a yuppy according to Thrillist, who recently named the 9 yuppiest neighborhoods in the US. One of them happened to be in our favorite city – Austin.
How Can You Determine a Yuppie Neighborhood?
Mostly found in the up and coming neighborhoods, skinny jean wearing, kale eating, bike riding hipsters can be found in just about every city in America. You know a neighborhood has reached the peak level of the gentrification process when the hipsters are priced out and the yuppies (affluent young professionals) move in. (This is all according to Thrillist. Many people we talked to about this article had very different definitions of yuppies, but we will take Thrillist’s view for this article.)
Austin Neighborhood Named #2 on Top 9 Yuppiest Neighborhoods in America
According to Thrillist, West 6th Street is #2 on the Top 9 Yuppiest Neighborhoods in America list. East 6th Street (known in Austin as “Dirty 6th”) is filled with $1 shot specials and college kids, while West 6th is home to young professionals who can splurge on overpriced drinks. (It’s also where you’ll find the best drinks, in my opinion.)
