Austin Named Best Place to Buy a Home in 2011

January 10, 2011 By Rebecca Jacks

It’s no secret we actively looked for a place to move and decided on Austin for a number of reasons – weather, great place to raise kids, plenty of things to do, affordable housing just to name a few. Every time I see one of these lists come out, it reinforces our choice to moving to this great city.

Austin Named Best Place to Buy a Home in 2011

WalletPop.com just released its list of Best Places to Buy a Home in 2011 and Austin rounded out the list (not surprisingly) at #1. WalletPop.com cited a 14.1% job growth, lower than average unemployment (7.1% vs. 9.8% nationwide), a growing population, numerous Fortune 500 companies, more than 2,000 tech companies and affordable housing prices compared to a $73,747 median family income. BBQ was also one of their considerations. Though BBQ didn’t come into my decision, one thing I’ve learned in my time here, Texans take their BBQ very seriously.
