6 Traits of a Remarkable Real Estate Agent

October 15, 2012 By Raymond Stoklosa

6 traits remarkable real estate agentWhat traits do I look for in a great Austin real estate agent? How can I tell between a great real estate agent and the just run-of-the-mill? I’ll bet you have asked yourself those very same questions.

#1: Listens More than They Speak

A remarkable agent is a careful listener and a thoughtful questioner. The remarkable agent will ask about your wants and goals. You will find you are doing most of the talking and the remarkable agent is doing most of the listening. How else can the agent discover what you really want, need and hope to accomplish?

#2: Doesn’t Try to Sell You on the Most Expensive Home

A remarkable agent will help you evaluate what you can really afford and not just what you qualify for. The remarkable agent will “run-the-numbers” to provide an approximation of your affordable price range. And, a first-rate agent will provide you with a list of reliable lenders to help facilitate the pre-approval process.

#3: Previews Homes to Rule Out Obvious Deal Killers & Save You Time

A remarkable agent will focus your search on the neighborhoods you can afford so you’ll not waste your time looking at homes you can’t afford. The remarkable agent respects your time, will pre-qualify showings and eliminate the obviously unsuitable homes before you get in the car.

#4: Educates You About Neighborhoods and The Market

A remarkable agent will educate you about the market and the current market trends. The remarkable agent knows more than just what homes are for sale. The top-notch agent knows the neighborhood, it’s history and what make the neighborhood special, different or suspect.

#5: Shares Ways to Make Property More Valuable

A remarkable agent will suggest ways to create more value from the property. The remarkable agent sees and shares what can be done with or to the property that will add value. That is the “added-value” of the truly remarkable agent.

#6: Coordinates a Smooth, Hassle Free Closing

A remarkable agent will be there for you at closing. For many people, closing a home purchase at the escrow company can be an intimidating experience. The remarkable agent will personally attend the closing meeting, preview the paperwork with you and your attorney, checking for errors or omissions and coordinate a smooth “hassle-free” closing.

How Do You Find a Remarkable Agent?

Once you have culled your list of potential remarkable agents to 3 to 5 prospects, schedule an in-person meeting and treat your meeting as an actual interview. Don’t be afraid to ask tough questions. Based on their responses and demeanor, ask yourself whether you would be comfortable working with this person on a day to day basis. What does your instinct tell you about this person’s trustworthiness? Finally, does this agent feel right for you? In the final analysis it’s all about chemistry.
