What to Look for in a Realtor When Relocating to Austin

June 6, 2015 By Chris Williamson

how to find best relocation realtor austin txWhen you’re relocating to Austin from another city, you’ll have lots of questions. Where are the best neighborhoods to live? Where are the best schools in Austin? Will I like living in a certain area of Austin? How’s traffic? Though you can find the answers to these questions, it will take months and months of your own research and several trips to Austin. Why not find a Realtor who knows the entire area and can help you answer these questions in a matter of minutes? Hiring a Realtor costs you nothing (their commission is paid by the seller) and the right one can save you thousands of dollars and hours of your time. Here is what to look for in a Realtor when relocating to Austin.

A Realtor Who Knows the Entire Austin Area

You want someone with knowledge of the entire area and surrounding Austin suburbs, not someone who is a particular neighborhood specialist. A Realtor with a good handle on the entire Austin area can help you identify the neighborhood you would be happiest, rather than try to sell you on the one neighborhood they specialize in.

For our detailed neighborhood and city guides, check out Austin Neighborhood Guides.

A Realtor Who Will Listen to Your Wants and Needs

Choose someone who will really listen to what type of place you like living and the type of home where you’ll be happiest. This way they can identify the homes and neighborhoods you may like and eliminate those that wouldn’t be a good fit.

A Realtor Who Can Recommend Neighborhoods Based on your Vision

A Realtor who can listen to your wants and needs and translate that into neighborhoods or areas you might like can save you tons of time. When we moved, we had a general idea of the type of area we wanted to live but had no idea where to find it. Now, after being here for a few years, we can help you find the area of town you’d be happiest in and save you time and money doing so.

A Realtor You Trust to Be Your Eyes While You’re Away

Find someone who will point out the negatives of a potential neighborhood or home. You can see the positives in a house. Let a Realtor point out potential resale problems and issues you might face. This type of Realtor can help you evaluate property and rule out those that would not be a good investment.

A Realtor Who Will Video Property

We’ve been using video property buyer tours for a few years and they’ve been especially helpful for our relocation buyers. We video the neighboring properties as well as the interior and exterior of the home for sale (as long as we’ve gotten permission from the owner). Then, we send you a private video so you can tour the property on your computer. The video paints a more realistic picture of the area, home and floor plan.
