How to Get a Drivers License in Austin

how to get drivers license austin txWhen relocating to Austin, residents have 90 days to after entry to obtain a Texas driver’s license. Luckily, the process is pretty easy if you have a valid out of state license or a valid driver’s license in Canada, Germany or France. Here’s how to get a new driver’s license after moving to Austin. Here’s how to get a drivers license in Austin.

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Documents

You’ll need to have your valid driver’s license if you want to bypass the written and driving test. But, you’ll need to pass a vision test so be prepared when you go to the Texas Drivers License Office. Here are the other documents you’ll need:

  • Valid Out of State License
  • US Passport or Permanent Resident Card
  • Birth Certificate and 2 Supporting Documents (if no Passport or Resident Card)
  • Social Security Card
  • Proof of Texas vehicle registration and liability insurance on all vehicles you own
  • Completed Application for Driver’s License
  • Credit Card, Cash, Money Order or Non-Temporary Check to Pay Fee

Step 2: Register Your Car

You’ll need to have your car registered in Texas before you can get a Texas Driver’s License.

Step 3: Bring Your Documents to a Texas Drivers License Office

Next, you’ll need to bring all of this documentation to your local Texas Drivers License Office. We would recommend going in the morning because they tend to be busy in the afternoon with new driver’s getting their license.

Also, they will take your picture, so wear something you don’t mind seeing every time someone asks for your Drivers License.

Williamson County Texas Drivers License Office Location and Hours

Austin North – 13730 Research Boulevard Austin, TX 78750 – 512-506-2835 – Hours: Monday, Wednesday-Friday 8am-5pm, Tuesday 8am-6pm

Georgetown – 515 S. Pine Street, Georgetown, TX 78626 – 512-863-5816 – Hours: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

Taylor – 412 Vance #2, Taylor, TX 76574 – 512-352-4160 – Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm

Hays County Texas Drivers License Office Location and Hours

San Marcos – 1400 Interstate 35 North San Marcos, TX 78666 – 512-353-2770 – Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Step 4: Have Patience

It can take more than a few minutes to get through the process, so bring a book or make sure your phone is fully charged so you don’t get bored. But, that’s the entire process.
