Akin is named for Monta Akin, Leander ISD’s former assistant superintendent of instructional services, who retired in December 2015 after more than 40 years with the district. Enrollment has eased from a peak of 927 students in 2023-24 to 817 in 2025-26. According to TEA, about 6.6% of Akin students are economically disadvantaged and about 18.8% are emergent bilingual students. The Texas Tribune reports the student body is about 42% Asian. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Akin Elementary earned an overall A with a score of 91. That is up from a B (88) in both 2023-24 and 2024-25, and it matches the A ratings Akin earned in 2018-19 (92) and 2022-23 (92).
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): A (91)
- Student Achievement: A, 91 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: B, 87 out of 100 (Academic Growth F/59, Relative Performance B/87)
- Closing the Gaps: A, 91 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: A (92) in 2018-19, B (87) in 2021-22, A (92) in 2022-23, B (88) in 2023-24, and B (88) in 2024-25 (no ratings were issued for 2019-20 or 2020-21)
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Akin’s strengths are Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, and Closing the Gaps, which looks at how each student group performs. In 2025-26, 77% of Akin students met grade level in reading and 64% in math. School Progress is scored two ways, and TEA uses the better one. Akin’s Relative Performance, which compares achievement with campuses serving a similar share of economically disadvantaged students, earned a B. Its Academic Growth score, which measures year-over-year improvement on STAAR, has been low for several years and was 59 in 2025-26. Akin has not earned any TEA distinction designations.

Homes Zoned to Akin Elementary: Market Stats
Here is what actually happened in Akin Elementary’s attendance zone over the past four years. The figures cover single-family homes in Leander ISD sold through Unlock MLS whose addresses fall inside the official Akin Elementary attendance zone. We started with every listing tagged to Akin in the MLS and every listing in the zone’s neighborhoods, then geocoded each address and tested it against Leander ISD’s own attendance-zone map rather than relying on the school name typed into each listing. That matters here. Seventeen listings tagged Akin, mostly in Sarita Valley, Bluffview, the Ranch at Brushy Creek and Block House Creek, are actually outside the zone and were left out. Another 59 listings inside the zone, many in Hazlewood, Cold Springs and Pecan Creek, were tagged to other schools and were added back in.
