Will it be hard to find a job when you relocate to Austin? A study by NerdWallet says no! We’ve witnessed this scenario many many times with our clients. They want to move to Austin, but are scared to take the plunge because they aren’t sure how long it will take them to find a job. But, what they are all surprised to find out is finding a job takes much less time than they feared and they are usually working in their field within a few weeks.

Austin Named #1 on Best US Cities for Job Seekers List

NerdWallet looked at cities where unemployment rates were low, cities that are growing and cities that are affordable. They came up with a top 10 list of best US cities for job seekers and Austin was (not surprisingly) named #1 on that list.

10 Best US Cities for Job Seekers

Texas has a reputation for a low cost of living and jobs and this list proves it. Three Texas cities made their way into the top 10. Here is a list of the 10 best US cities for job seekers according to NerdWallet. You can read the rest of the list here.

  2. Washington DC
  3. Fort Worth, TX
  4. Denver, CO
  5. Charlotte, NC
  6. Raleigh, NC
  7. Omaha, NE
  8. Minneapolis, MN
  9. Oklahoma City, OK
  10. San Antonio, TX

Which US Cities Were Considered?

The study ranked the 50 largest metro areas in the US in terms of unemployment, population growth, median income and selected monthly owner costs.

Austin Has a Variety of Jobs – Not all in One Sector

Unlike most cities, Austin has diversified the types of jobs. Whereas some cities focus the majority of their job growth on certain industries, Austin is strong in government jobs, high tech jobs, medical jobs and teaching jobs to name a few. The wide range of jobs available make it easier for families to relocate without have to sacrifice their careers. It’s also one of the reasons Austin’s job growth is so strong and sustainable.
