Located just across Lake Austin, its hard to think of Rollingwood as its own city and not just another West Austin neighborhood. However, Rollingwood has been a city with its own fire, police, EMS and court system since 1955. In 2000, the city’s population was 1,403 and dropped in the 2005 estimate to 1,359 people. Because Rollingwood is only about 0.7 square miles, most residents identify with neighborhing West Lake Hills. When asked why they chose Rollingwood, most residents point to the mature landscaping, close knit and active community, exemplary schools and proximity to some of Austin’s best amenities. Even though Rollingwood is a smaller community with about 1500 residents, their city services are top notch. You won’t smell garbage in Rollingwood – they pick up twice a week!

Austin Science and Nature Center

A great (and free) activity for kids in Rollingwood. The Austin Science and Nature Center is a bit of an alternative zoo in that all the animals were unable to be rehabilitated and released into the wild, so they kept them there. Parking is easy and they also have plenty of indoor activities.

Hike at Zilker Nature Preserve

One of Austin’s many hiking trails, Zilker Nature Preserve is a favorite among Rollingwood residents. Just a few minutes drive from your home, you can be on the trail in minutes.

Rent a Boat at Zilker Park

For a fun afternoon, rent a kayak or canoe and spend the day on Lake Austin. You can rent them by the hour or for the day.

Pizza Nizza

Though mostly known for their pizza, they also have pretty good pastas and salads. Located in Rollingwood Plaza, Pizza Nizza is a favorite not just among Rollingwood residents, but also Downtown and South Austin residents because of its easy access from MoPac. If you don’t feel like going out, they even deliver.

Bistro 88

Serving Asian Fusion and Sushi, Bistro 88 in Rollingwood is a local favorite. Family owned and operated, Bistro 88 has been serving up sushi and other Asian inspired dishes to Rollingwood residents for over 10 years. Trianon the Coffee Place

Another one of Austin’s many locally owned coffee shops, in fact the owners are Eanes parents. Located just north of Rollingwood, Trianon is best known for its iced coffee, but does have a pretty extensive food and drink menu. One of the very cool things about Trianon is they have a free conference room available for anyone to reserve.
