Dessau Elementary Is Closing After the 2026-27 School Year
On May 14, 2026, the Pflugerville ISD board of trustees voted to close four elementary schools at the end of the 2026-27 school year: Dessau, Parmer Lane, Pflugerville, and Windermere. The district cited projected budget shortfalls and expects the four closures to save about $9.8 million a year. Dessau Elementary will stay open for the 2026-27 school year, and the consolidated campuses open in fall 2027.
According to the district, most Dessau students will move to Delco Elementary. Where the rest of the current zone goes is still being decided. PfISD’s rezoning task force released two draft maps in September 2026. Map 5 sends most of the Dessau zone to Delco, with a smaller group going to Wieland Elementary. Map 9 sends a larger share to Wieland. The task force is reviewing public hearing and survey feedback after the October fall break and plans to bring a final recommendation to the board before winter break 2026.

If you’re buying in this zone with a child who will be in elementary school in 2027-28 or later, plan around the receiving school, not Dessau. Once the board adopts the final map, you can check any address on the Pflugerville ISD Find My School Map. We’ll update this page when the new boundaries are final.

Dessau serves a student body that is 88% economically disadvantaged, and 56% of its students are emergent bilingual learners, according to TEA’s 2025-26 campus data. Both are well above the district average, and they help explain why Dessau is part of Pflugerville ISD’s ACE program (more on that below). GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
- Overall TEA Rating: D (65 out of 100)
- Student Achievement: F, 52 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: D, 63 out of 100 (student growth compared to schools serving similar populations)
- Closing the Gaps: D, 68 out of 100
- Attendance Rate: 92.5%
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Dessau’s overall score has moved around over the last several years. It was an F in 2022-23 (58) and 2023-24 (54), rose to a C (74) in 2024-25, and fell back to a D (65) for 2025-26. The weakest domain is Student Achievement, which is based on STAAR results.

It also includes the eastern part of Harris Ridge near the school, plus rural acreage along Dessau Rd. To confirm whether a specific address is zoned to Dessau, use Pflugerville ISD’s official address lookup: Pflugerville ISD Find My School Map.

Data sourced from Unlock MLS. Statistics deemed reliable but not guaranteed. About 110 of the 580 sales tagged Dessau Elementary in MLS over this period are at addresses Pflugerville ISD zones to other schools (mainly Lisso, Meadowlark Preserve, Retreat at Tech Ridge, Northtown Park, and western Harris Ridge), so they are excluded here.
The median sale price in the Dessau zone has fallen every year, from $405,000 in 2022-23 to $351,660 over the trailing twelve months, down about 13%. Price per square foot is down about 10%, from $219 to $197. Much of this zone is new construction, with Lennar building out Greenwood and Brohn Homes building Edgebrooke. Builder pricing and smaller new floor plans have pulled the median down. Sales peaked at 145 in 2024-25, when Greenwood was selling fastest, then dropped to 87, down 40%. Median days on market doubled, from 24 to 48. Homes are still closing at about 100% of list price, mostly because builder homes tend to sell at their (often already reduced) list price. For buyers, this is one of the more affordable pockets of the Austin-Pflugerville area. Keep the 2027-28 school change in mind, though.

The median active listing is priced at $338,360 and has been on the market a little over two months, so there’s room to negotiate, especially on builder incentives.
