Giddens is a smaller Leander ISD elementary with a large early childhood program. In 2024-25, about 41% of students were economically disadvantaged, about 23% were emergent bilingual, about 28% received special education services, and about 8% were identified as gifted and talented. Giddens is a Title I campus. Keep in mind that the GreatSchools rating above and the TEA accountability rating below measure different things, so the two can tell somewhat different stories.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
Giddens Elementary received a D (63) in the Texas Education Agency’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, down from a C (76) in 2024-25. Student Achievement, which is based on STAAR results, was a D (62), compared with a D (60) the year before. School Progress, which measures how much students grew from one year to the next, fell from a C (75) to a D (62). Closing the Gaps, which tracks how each student group performs against state targets, fell from a C (77) to a D (64). TEA builds the overall score mainly from the better of Student Achievement and School Progress, so the 2024-25 C reflected stronger student growth that year. Giddens was not identified for any federal support and improvement designation in 2025 or 2026. TEA had identified it for Additional Targeted Support in 2023 and for Targeted Support and Improvement in 2024, both federal designations based on the performance of individual student groups. Over the longer run, Giddens has earned C and D ratings, with a C in 2018-19 and 2021-22 and D ratings in 2022-23 and 2023-24. For comparison, Leander ISD as a whole earned a B (87).
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): D (63)
- Student Achievement: D (62)
- School Progress: D (62)
- Closing the Gaps: D (64)
- Federal Designation: None in 2025 or 2026. Identified for Additional Targeted Support in 2023 and Targeted Support and Improvement in 2024.
- Prior Overall Ratings: C (76) in 2024-25, D (68) in 2023-24, D (63) in 2022-23, C (71) in 2021-22, and C (70) in 2018-19 (no ratings were issued for 2019-20 or 2020-21)
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. The 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings were delayed by litigation over TEA’s methodology and were not released until 2025. Because Giddens serves a large Pre-K and early childhood population, the STAAR-based ratings reflect only its students in 3rd through 5th grade.
