Deer Creek’s average class sizes run about 18 to 19 students in every grade from kindergarten through 5th, and in 2024-25 about 9% of its students were economically disadvantaged. About 22% of students are emergent bilingual (English learners), and about 14% are identified as gifted and talented. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Deer Creek Elementary earned an overall A with a score of 93. That is down 2 points from an A (95) in 2024-25, but it is the campus’s fourth straight A. Deer Creek was rated B (87) in 2021-22, the first year ratings resumed after the pandemic, and has been an A every year since.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): A (93)
- Student Achievement: A, 93 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: A, 92 out of 100 (Academic Growth A/92, Relative Performance B/80)
- Closing the Gaps: A, 93 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: A (95) in 2018-19, B (87) in 2021-22, A (92) in 2022-23, A (93) in 2023-24, A (95) in 2024-25
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. TEA’s overall score combines the better of Student Achievement or School Progress (70%) with Closing the Gaps (30%), and Deer Creek scored in the A range on all three in 2025-26. Closing the Gaps, which looks at how each student group performs, is the area that improved most since 2021-22, when it was a C. The 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings were held up by litigation and were not released until 2025. Deer Creek did not earn distinction designations in 2025-26. In 2018-19 it earned distinctions in Science and in Comparative Closing the Gaps.
