Cox is named for Charlotte Ann Cox, who taught in Leander ISD for more than 24 years, mostly in 5th and 6th grade, before her death in 1999. In 2025-26, about 20.5% of Cox’s students were economically disadvantaged, 25.7% were emergent bilingual students, and 15.6% received special education services. A Cox modernization project was on the citizens’ committee’s 2026 bond list, but Leander ISD decided not to hold a bond election in November 2026 and called a November 3 tax-rate election instead, so that project is not currently funded. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Cox Elementary earned an overall C with a score of 79. That is down 4 points from a B (83) in 2024-25 and the second straight year its score has dropped. Cox was a B campus in each of the four prior rated years: 84 in 2021-22, 81 in 2022-23, 87 in 2023-24 and 83 in 2024-25.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): C (79)
- Student Achievement: B, 80 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: C, 79 out of 100 (Academic Growth C/79, Relative Performance F/58)
- Closing the Gaps: C, 76 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: B (84) in 2021-22, B (81) in 2022-23, B (87) in 2023-24, B (83) in 2024-25
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Cox’s strongest area in 2025-26 was Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, which held a B. School Progress slipped from B (85) to C (79), and Closing the Gaps, which looks at how each student group performs, has been a C every year since 2021-22. The campus did not earn any distinction designations from 2021-22 through 2025-26, and it is not identified for state improvement support.
