After a 2010 Innovation Grant and community planning, it became Austin ISD’s first in-district charter school, though it still enrolls by attendance zone, with transfers subject to Austin ISD policy. In 2025-26, Travis Heights enrolled 484 students, with 59.5% economically disadvantaged, 36.4% emergent bilingual and 19.2% receiving special education services, according to TEA. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Travis Heights Elementary earned an overall C with a score of 76. That is down 9 points from a B (85) in 2024-25. Travis Heights was an A in 2021-22 (92) and 2022-23 (90), then a B (84) in 2023-24, so 2025-26 continues a gradual decline.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): C (76)
- Student Achievement: C, 73 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: C, 79 out of 100 (Academic Growth C/79, Relative Performance C/72)
- Closing the Gaps: D, 69 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: A (92) in 2021-22, A (90) in 2022-23, B (84) in 2023-24, B (85) in 2024-25
- Austin ISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. The main reason for the 2025-26 drop was School Progress, which fell from a B (89) to a C (79) as Academic Growth dropped from 89 to 79. Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, slipped from 77 to a C (72). Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, fell from a C (77) to a D (69), and Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, eased from 75 to a C (73). TEA identified Travis Heights for targeted support and improvement in 2024-25 and for additional targeted support in 2025-26. The campus earned distinctions in ELA/Reading and Comparative Academic Growth in 2021-22 and none in the years since.
