Austin Relocation Guide

Best Austin Relocation Guide

Whether you’re being relocated to Austin for a job change or if you visited here and loved it (like we did), making a move from a city you know to a city you don’t can be a stressful experience. Having relocated to Austin ourselves, we know what you’re going through and can help make this move as easy as possible. Here, we’ll share our experience with articles, guides and give you some quick tips.

We’ve split up our Austin Relocation Guide based on the stages of the relocation process. If there is something you can’t find, email us at info@AustinRealEstateHomesBlog.com and we’ll get you the answer.

Why Move to Austin?

We fell in love with Austin because of the friendliness of the people, small town feel, family oriented community with good schools, warm weather, lakes, small business friendly climate and no state income tax. Whatever your reasons are, you want to make sure you’re making the right move. Here are some additional resources.

Exploring the Area

During our first phase of research we did a lot of home searches and just looking at what you could get in each area. Because we could start our business in any part of the city, we looked everywhere. Some of you may not have that luxury if you’re moving for a job in a certain location, but that’s not entirely a bad thing either since you can narrow your search parameters.

What we’d suggest is to first take a look at our neighborhood guides and learn about each area of town. Then, when you think you found an area of town you may like, put in your price parameters to find which neighborhoods offer homes in that price range and explore those further. You can also shoot us an email at info@AustinRealEstateHomesBlog.com with what you’re looking for and we can help you narrow this down much more quickly.

Learn About the Schools

In Texas, we have a rating system instituted by the Texas Education Agency where each district (called ISD’s or Independent School Districts) and school are assigned a rating. The highest rating is Exemplary, followed by Recognized, then Academically Acceptable, then Academically Unacceptable. Here is where you can get some additional information about the school districts in the Austin area. Just looking for the top schools? Try our Top 3 School Districts in Austin article.

Your First Trip to Austin

Even though we’d been here a few times before, we wanted to make another trip to make sure Austin was really the place for us. We spent hours driving around, looking at each of the areas and asking ourselves, can we live here? When we came, we didn’t have any neighborhood maps showing us where some of the neighborhoods were. Instead, we just fumbled around with a GPS, an Austin map and what we scribbled down as the boundaries for each area.

To help you make the most of your first visit to Austin, we include a map with each of our neighborhood guides that has the boundaries shaded. For the larger neighborhoods and popular zip codes, we’ve even created Printable Maps and Neighborhood Guides that you can print and bring with you on your trip. You can download those FREE by looking for the link above the map in the neighborhood guide.

Austin Street Guide

If you ask for directions or if you’re using a GPS, its helpful to know the proper pronunciation for the streets as some of them are not said how they’re spelled. Plus, there are alternate names for the same street, which can get kinda confusing. To help you learn in 5 minutes what it took us a year and fit in with the locals, check out our Austin Street Guide and Pronunciation Cheat Sheet.
