First developed in 2006, Driftwood’s Rim Rock neighborhood is popular among residents looking for newer construction on acre home sites. You can find both new construction and resales in Rim Rock, but you won’t find a community pool. Rim Rock homes are built on large lots and many of the home owners have pools and playgrounds so they don’t have to go too far to take the kids out. Rim Rock is the neighborhood for you if you are looking for a more master-planned type community than a country cottage and don’t want to sacrifice lot size. Where is Rim Rock?
Rim Rock is located off FM 1826 just south of Nutty Brown Road. There are three entrances to the community. The easiest access can be found off Arbor Canyon Pass. To get to Rim Rock, take MoPac South to Texs Highway 45. When it dead ends into 1826, make a left and follow it 5.1 miles to Arbor Canyon Pass where you will make a left again. Golf Near Rim Rock
The closest golf to Rim Rock is the Grey Rock Golf Course. To get there, take FM 1826 about 5 miles north and make a right on 45. The entrance is the first right. Grey Rock is a public course with both pay as you play and membership options. Alternatively, you can also try Falconhead Golf Course in Bee Cave. Falconhead is also a public course.
Things to Do Near Rim Rock
If you like boating, Lake Travis is about 20 miles from the entrance to Rim Rock, making it a quick 30 minute drive. If you like shopping, head to Sunset Valley or Barton Creek Square Mall, both about 15 miles from Rim Rock. Have a kid that likes to rollerblade? Take them to the The Veloway a dedicated bike and rollerblading paved trail near Circle C. Like the outlet mall? The Outlet Mall in San Marcos is only 30 miles away.
Places to Eat Near Rim Rock
The most popular local restaurant is Salt Lick BBQ and is just 2 minutes from the entrance to Rim Rock. Salt Lick is BYOB so if you like beer or wine with your BBQ, make sure to bring some. They also have a beautiful pavilion for weddings and special events and just opened a winery. If you’re in the mood for Italian, try Trattoria Lisina in Driftwood. Downtown Austin is also just about 20 miles away, so your favorite Austin restaurants are only a few minutes away.
Grocery Shopping Near Rim Rock
The nearest grocery shopping to Rim Rock is the H-E-B in Escarpment Village. Coming from Dripping Springs? Try the H-E-B in Dripping Springs off 290. For Costco, try the Costco in Southwest Austin at MoPac and William Cannon. How about Walmart? Try the Walmart at 290 near Sunset Valley. Though grocery shopping is not super convenient to Rim Rock today, I would imagine as more and more people move into the area, grocery shopping will be much more convenient.
Where to Work Out – Gyms Near Rim Rock
If you opt not to turn one of your extra bedrooms into a gym, there are a few options. For a Curves, head to 290 and Nutty Brown Road. If you like tennis, try the Polo Tennis and Fitness Club between Co Rd 185 and Nutty Brown Road. For a YMCA and the Dripping Springs Fitness Center, head to Dripping Springs.
