Palm Elementary is in the Austin ISD and earned a 5/10 rating from Great School’s as of October 2026. The campus sits at 7601 Dixie Dr. in Southeast Austin’s 78744 zip code and serves Pre-K 3 through 5th grade. Austin ISD proposed closing Palm in fall 2025 but removed it from the November 2025 vote, so Palm stays open and its elementary zone is unchanged for 2026-27. What did change is the middle school: Paredes Middle School closed on July 30, 2026, and the Palm zone now feeds Mendez Middle School and then Akins Early College High School. Palm traces its history to 1887, when the Arsenal Block School opened at 700 East First Street. The board renamed it Palm School in 1902 for Svante Palm, Austin’s longtime Swedish consul, and the current campus on Dixie Dr. opened on September 2, 1986, with 544 students. Enrollment has fallen since then, from 481 in 2015-16 to 302 in 2025-26 by TEA’s count. In 2025-26, 86.8% of students were economically disadvantaged, 49.7% were emergent bilingual and 34.1% received special education or Section 504 services. Langford Elementary students, who used portables at Palm while Langford was modernized, were scheduled to leave after summer 2026. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating

Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Palm’s B comes from School Progress and Closing the Gaps. School Progress rose from a C (79) to a B (84), carried by Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, at 84; Academic Growth was a C (75). Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, rose from a C (76) to a B (87). Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, was a C (76), up from 72. Palm earned four distinction designations in 2021-22 (ELA/Reading, Mathematics, Comparative Academic Growth and Postsecondary Readiness) and none since. The campus is not identified for state improvement support.

Palm Elementary Attendance Zone Map
Palm’s zone covers Southeast Austin neighborhoods in 78744 near the campus, mainly the many phases and sections of Springfield, along with the Bend at Nuckols Crossing and Yarrabee Bend South. The elementary zone did not change for 2026-27. Palm was proposed for closure in fall 2025, then removed from the November 2025 vote, and Austin ISD’s boundary page now says the district is suspending additional school closures.
Palm’s feeder middle school did change. Austin ISD closed Paredes Middle School on July 30, 2026, sending students east of Bluff Springs Rd. and north of Slaughter Ln. to Mendez Middle School and all others to Bailey Middle School; the Palm zone falls in the Mendez area. Austin ISD plans Phase 1 boundary changes for 2027-28, with a board vote expected in fall 2026, and a district-wide boundary and feeder realignment, with possible consolidations, for fall 2028, so confirm any address with Austin ISD’s school finder before buying.
Homes Zoned to Palm Elementary: Market Stats
The figures below cover single-family homes sold through Unlock MLS whose addresses fall inside Palm Elementary’s 2026-27 attendance zone, based on Austin ISD’s official SY 2026-27 boundary map, not the school typed into each listing. Most sales were in Springfield, with the rest in the Bend at Nuckols Crossing and Yarrabee Bend South. The zone is small, with 103 sales since September 2022 and 24 to 28 a year, so a few sales can move the medians. Most listings in the zone still show Paredes as the middle school in MLS.
3-Year Closed Sales Trend

| Trailing 12 Months (Sept 2025 – Aug 2026) | 26 | $329,482 | $190.51 | 97.2% | 38 days |
Data sourced from Unlock MLS. Statistics deemed reliable but not guaranteed. Single-family homes only. Each Austin ISD listing was geocoded and matched to Austin ISD’s SY 2026-27 Palm Elementary attendance boundary, so the figures reflect today’s zone rather than the school typed into each listing.
The median sale price in the Palm zone fell from $375,000 in 2022-23 to $329,483 over the trailing twelve months, a decline of about 12.1%. Median price per square foot barely moved, from $188.19 to $190.52 (+1.2%), so much of the drop in the median reflects slightly smaller homes selling (about 1,742 square feet compared with 1,805) and the mix of homes sold rather than lower prices per foot.
Sales volume was steady, at 28 homes in 2022-23 and 26 in the past twelve months. Median days on market rose from 23 to 37.5 days, and sellers received a median of 97.2% of their final list price over the past year, compared with 98.2% in 2022-23.
