Northeast ECHS is in the Austin ISD and earned a 3/10 rating from Great School’s as of September 2026. The campus sits at 7104 Berkman Dr. in Northeast Austin’s 78752 zip code and serves 9th through 12th grade. Northeast’s attendance zone did not change for 2026-27, but its building did: International High School, the newcomer school that had shared the campus, closed at the end of 2025-26. Inside the zone, the closure of Martin Middle School shifted that area to Kealing and Marshall, so Northeast now draws from Lamar, Kealing, Dobie, Webb and Marshall middle schools. The campus was built in 1965 as John H. Reagan High School. After the Austin ISD board voted in 2018 to remove Confederate-linked names, it became Northeast Early College High School starting in 2019-20, so older records may still list it as Reagan. In 2025-26, Northeast enrolled 952 students, with 91.7% economically disadvantaged, 68.0% emergent bilingual and 15.9% receiving special education services, according to TEA. For 2026-27, International High School’s students returned to their zoned high schools with newcomer support, and Northeast moved to Austin ISD’s standard transportation policy, which provides bus service only to students living more than two miles away. A $117.9 million Phase 1 bond modernization, including a new athletics building, a mental health center and an “Old Mall” renovation, is under construction with an anticipated opening of January 2028. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Northeast Early College High School earned an overall C with a score of 77. That is up 2 points from a C (75) in 2024-25 and its highest score of the past five years. Northeast was a C (76) in 2021-22, then fell to an F (59) in 2022-23 and a D (62) in 2023-24 before recovering.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): C (77)
- Student Achievement: C, 77 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance, college, career and military readiness, and graduation rate)
- School Progress: C, 75 out of 100 (Academic Growth D/64, Relative Performance C/75)
- Closing the Gaps: C, 77 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: C (76) in 2021-22, F (59) in 2022-23, D (62) in 2023-24, C (75) in 2024-25
- Austin ISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. In 2025-26 Northeast earned a C in all three domains. Student Achievement, which for high schools combines STAAR results, college, career and military readiness (CCMR) and graduation rate, held at 77, with the CCMR component at 82, down slightly from 85 but far above the 50 to 58 range of 2021-22 through 2023-24. School Progress rose from 73 to 75, with Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, at 75 and Academic Growth improving from an F (57) to a D (64). Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, rose from 70 to 77 and accounts for most of the gain. Northeast has earned no distinction designations in these years. TEA identified it for comprehensive support and improvement in 2022-23, and it has not been identified since 2024-25.
