Joslin is named for Sergeant Jerry Joslin, an Austin police traffic officer for 11 years who organized student safety patrols and died in a car accident in March 1953, and the school was built in three stages from 1954 to 1956. It is a small campus: 245 students in 2025-26, with a student-teacher ratio of 9.0 to 1. That year 44.1% of students were economically disadvantaged, 20.8% were emergent bilingual, 35.1% received special education services and about 21.6% were identified as gifted and talented, according to TEA. The non-zoned Language Immersion Program idea was deferred, not rejected, so it is worth watching Austin ISD’s planning for 2027-28 and later. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
TEA lists Joslin Elementary as not considered for accountability in every year from 2021-22 through 2025-26, including the 2025-26 ratings released in August 2026. Joslin therefore has no TEA letter grade or domain scores for those years. Austin ISD as a whole earned a B (81) in 2025-26.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): No separate rating; TEA lists the campus as not considered for accountability
- Prior Overall Ratings: not evaluated by TEA in 2021-22, not evaluated by TEA in 2022-23, not evaluated by TEA in 2023-24, not evaluated by TEA in 2024-25
- Austin ISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Because TEA lists Joslin as not considered for accountability in each year from 2021-22 through 2025-26, there are no Student Achievement, School Progress or Closing the Gaps scores and no distinction designations to report for the campus. If academic results matter to your decision, ask Joslin or Austin ISD directly what campus-level performance information is available.

The 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings were delayed by litigation and released in 2025. TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Austin ISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.
