In 2025-26, Hart enrolled 531 students, with 94.4% economically disadvantaged, 77.0% emergent bilingual and 21.3% receiving special education services, according to TEA. KUT reported that Hart is one of 12 Austin ISD campuses with two consecutive unacceptable ratings that are in school improvement for 2026-27, which means intensive changes to curriculum and instruction but not a full restart. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Hart Elementary earned an overall D with a score of 68. That is up 11 points from an F (57) in 2024-25. Hart was an A (91) in 2021-22, then fell to a C (77) in 2022-23 and to an F (57) in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): D (68)
- Student Achievement: F, 55 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: D, 69 out of 100 (Academic Growth D/69, Relative Performance F/57)
- Closing the Gaps: D, 66 out of 100

- Austin ISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Hart’s 2025-26 improvement came from School Progress, which rose from an F (55) to a D (69) as Academic Growth climbed from 55 to 69. Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, stayed in the F range at 55, and Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, was an F (57). Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, rose from 61 to a D (66). Hart earned Postsecondary Readiness and Comparative Closing the Gaps distinctions in 2021-22 and none since.
TEA identified Hart for comprehensive support and improvement in 2023-24, reidentified it in 2024-25 and listed it as a comprehensive support and improvement progress school in 2025-26. The campus is in Austin ISD’s school improvement group for 2026-27, so ask the school what changes to curriculum and instruction are in place this year.
