Marshall opened in 2023-24 in the Mueller community as a new 2017 bond school with a planned capacity of 800 students. It added one grade a year and became a full 6th through 8th grade school in 2025-26. It is named for Dr. General Garwood Marshall, a Huston-Tillotson University math professor and Northeast Austin native, and the building’s design references the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. In 2025-26, Marshall enrolled 638 students, with 62.2% economically disadvantaged, 28.5% emergent bilingual and 25.1% receiving special education services. For 2026-27 it takes in its first assigned students from the former Martin Middle School zone, and Austin ISD is drawing its first full attendance boundary for 2027-28. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Marshall Middle School earned an overall D with a score of 68. That is up 1 point from a D (67) in 2024-25. Marshall’s first rating, in 2023-24 when it served only 6th grade, was an F (51), and it was not rated before it opened.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): D (68)
- Student Achievement: C, 70 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: D, 69 out of 100 (Academic Growth D/65, Relative Performance D/69)
- Closing the Gaps: D, 63 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: not evaluated by TEA in 2021-22, not evaluated by TEA in 2022-23, F (51) in 2023-24, D (67) in 2024-25
- Austin ISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Marshall’s best domain in 2025-26 was Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, which rose from a D (65) to a C (70). School Progress improved from 60 to a D (69), with Academic Growth up from 57 to 65 and Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, at 69. Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, fell from a C (71) to a D (63), which held the overall score to a 1-point gain. Marshall has earned no distinction designations. TEA identified it for comprehensive support and improvement in 2023-24 and for targeted support and improvement in 2025-26, and Austin ISD listed Marshall among campuses needing a turnaround plan after two unacceptable ratings.

Marshall Middle School Attendance Area and Admission
Marshall’s only assigned area for 2026-27 is a 1.1-square-mile piece of the Pecan Springs Elementary zone that was reassigned from Martin Middle School, which closed at the end of 2025-26. Martin’s students were split by address among Kealing, Marshall and Lively. The assigned area includes 51 East, Windsor Park Hills, Preswyck Hills, Manor Hills and Cherrylawn. Most Northeast Austin addresses near the campus are not assigned to Marshall. Instead, students zoned to Andrews, Blanton, Harris, Jordan, Norman-Sims, Overton and Pecan Springs elementaries have priority to opt in.
That is expected to change. Austin ISD is drawing Marshall’s first full attendance boundary in Phase 1 of its boundary realignment, with draft scenarios in September and a board vote in October 2026, and any change takes effect in 2027-28. Austin ISD has said about 1,095 middle schoolers live in the nearby elementary zones, against Marshall’s capacity of 800. A district-wide boundary and feeder realignment follows in fall 2028, so confirm any address with Austin ISD’s school finder before buying.
Homes Zoned to Marshall Middle School: Market Stats
The figures below cover single-family homes sold through Unlock MLS whose addresses fall inside Marshall’s 2026-27 assigned area, the former Martin reassignment area within the Pecan Springs zone, based on Austin ISD’s official SY 2026-27 boundary map, not the school typed into each listing. They do not cover the wider opt-in area. Most of the 179 sales since September 2022 were in 51 East, Windsor Park Hills, Preswyck Hills and Manor Hills. Only 2 listings in the area were tagged to Marshall in MLS, while 109 were tagged to Martin, so the MLS school field lags the new assignment.
