Located on the north end of Bastrop County, Elgin is one of the Austin area’s sleepy towns turned burgeoning suburbs. Highway 290 provides a straight shot to Downtown Austin, making it ideal for someone who wants to be connected to Austin, but doesn’t need to be right in town. The population of Elgin at the 2020 census was just under 10,000 and the Elgin planning department is predicting the population will be around 60,000 by the 2030 census. We are seeing large builders like LGI Homes, DR Horton, Brohn and KB buy up land in Elgin and develop suburban feeling neighborhoods, which is attracting buyers who are looking for affordability and newer construction. If you’re looking for a great place to live not too far outside of Austin and want to keep your mortgage payment as low as possible, Elgin is a great place to start your search.
