Blue Hole Primary was built with Wimberley ISD’s 2018 bond and opened in August 2020. Trustees chose the name in November 2019 from nearly 300 suggestions; it refers to Blue Hole, the swimming hole on Cypress Creek. The roughly 90,600-square-foot campus was planned for 800 students in 40 classrooms. Its One Water design collects rainwater and air-conditioning condensate in a 200,000-gallon tank and reuses the water for irrigation and toilet flushing, and the project won the Texas Water Development Board’s 2020 Rain Catcher Award. Blue Hole took over the TEA campus number of the former Scudder Primary, and when it opened, 2nd grade moved here from Jacob’s Well. TEA’s 2025-26 accountability listing counts 612 students, with 34.3% economically disadvantaged. In 2024-25 the campus enrolled 647 students, including 161 in Pre-K, with 12.5% emergent bilingual students, 21.6% receiving special education services and 16.1 students per teacher. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in 2026, Blue Hole Primary is listed with an overall B and a score of 81. That grade does not come from testing at Blue Hole. The campus has no STAAR-tested grades, so TEA pairs it with Jacob’s Well Elementary and assigns it Jacob’s Well’s overall rating, which was an A (90) in 2024-25.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): B (81)
- Paired Rating: Blue Hole has no STAAR-tested grades, so TEA pairs it with Jacob’s Well Elementary and assigns it Jacob’s Well’s overall rating. Domain scores are Not Rated.
- Prior Overall Ratings: C (79) in 2021-22, C (79) in 2022-23, B (85) in 2023-24, A (90) in 2024-25
- Wimberley ISD (2025-26): B (87) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Because the rating is paired, Blue Hole’s Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps scores are all listed as Not Rated, and the campus is not eligible for distinctions. Its rating history matches Jacob’s Well’s exactly: C (79) in 2021-22 and 2022-23, B (85) in 2023-24, A (90) in 2024-25 and B (81) in 2025-26. The 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings were delayed by litigation and released in 2025. To see how 3rd through 5th graders performed by domain, read the Jacob’s Well page. Wimberley ISD as a whole earned a B (87) in 2025-26.
