Windermere Elementary Is Closing After the 2026-27 School Year
On May 14, 2026, the Pflugerville ISD board of trustees voted to close four elementary schools at the end of the 2026-27 school year: Dessau, Parmer Lane, Pflugerville, and Windermere. The district cited projected budget shortfalls. Windermere stays open for 2026-27, and students move to their new campuses in fall 2027.
Windermere’s case is different from the other three closures. It is not a small or shrinking school. With 665 students it is one of the larger elementary campuses in the district, its enrollment has held roughly steady over five years while the district average fell about 16%, and its campus growth score of 83 is above the district median of 79. The district’s reasoning was about the buildings around it. Windermere opened in 1989 and runs at about 67% of capacity, while nearby Timmerman Elementary, built in 2017, sits below 50% and is projected to stay there without new students. The district also noted there are no active subdivisions being built in the zone, and it plans to repurpose the Windermere building for other district uses.
Where students go next is still being decided. PfISD’s rezoning task force presented draft maps on September 22, 2026. Plans 5 and 7 would keep the largest group of Windermere students together at Timmerman (about 200 students), with smaller groups going to Brookhollow (about 63), Highland Park (about 50), Caldwell (about 23), and Spring Hill (about 11). Plans 8 and 9 would send most Windermere students to Caldwell (about 306), with about 116 going to Brookhollow and a small group to Spring Hill. Task force members noted that Plans 8 and 9 put more families at a school closer to home, while Plan 5 keeps more of the Windermere community together at Timmerman, where Windermere’s former principal and several staff members now work. The task force is due to bring its final recommendation to the board by November 2026, with the goal of adopting boundaries before winter break.

If you’re buying in this zone with a child who will be in elementary school in 2027-28 or later, plan around the receiving school, not Windermere. Once the board adopts the final map, you can check any address on the Pflugerville ISD Find My School Map. We’ll update this page when the new boundaries are final.

The Windermere Pledge, which students say each day, is short: do what is right, do your best, and treat other people the way you want to be treated. GreatSchools and the Texas Education Agency measure different things, which is worth knowing before comparing schools. GreatSchools weighs test performance against schools serving similar student populations. The Texas Education Agency’s rating, below, is the state’s own official measurement and the one used for school accountability purposes.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, updated in September 2026, Windermere Elementary earned an overall C with a score of 75. That follows a B (82) in 2024-25, the campus’s best score in the past five years. Windermere has stayed in a narrow band between 75 and 82 since 2021-22.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): C (75)

Windermere is not identified for comprehensive or targeted support. Some context helps when reading these scores. About 62% of Windermere students are economically disadvantaged, a bit above the district average of 54%, and about 24% receive special education services, compared with about 17% district-wide. Pflugerville ISD’s campus profile puts Windermere’s campus growth score at 83, above the district median of 79, and names African American and Hispanic students as the groups with performance gaps. Under TEA’s scale, an A rating reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized performance, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable.

The district has not yet announced where ASCEND will be housed once Windermere closes. The Innovative Programming Task Force, which is shaping academic offerings at the receiving campuses, meets in October and November 2026. Yes. On May 14, 2026, the Pflugerville ISD board voted to close Windermere Elementary at the end of the 2026-27 school year, along with Dessau, Parmer Lane, and Pflugerville elementaries. Windermere is open for 2026-27. Starting with the 2027-28 school year, students in the current zone will attend a different elementary school.
That is still being decided. Draft Plans 5 and 7, presented in September 2026, would send the largest group, about 200 students, to Timmerman Elementary, with smaller groups going to Brookhollow, Highland Park, Caldwell, and Spring Hill. Draft Plans 8 and 9 would send most students, about 306, to Caldwell, with about 116 going to Brookhollow. The rezoning task force is due to bring a final recommendation to the Board by November 2026, and the district plans to adopt the new map before winter break.
The district is closing four elementary schools to address projected budget shortfalls. For Windermere specifically, the district pointed to its 1989 building running at about 67% of capacity while nearby Timmerman Elementary, built in 2017, sits below 50%. Moving Windermere students to newer campuses fills that space. The district also noted that no new subdivisions are being built in the zone.
Windermere received an overall C (75) in TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, updated in September 2026. By domain, it scored a C (75) in Student Achievement, a C (77) in School Progress, and a C (70) in Closing the Gaps. Its prior overall scores were 79 (C), 80 (B), 78 (C), and 82 (B) from 2021-22 through 2024-25.

Heatherwilde Sections 3 and 4 are zoned to Brookhollow, and nearby Cambridge Heights and North Park are zoned to Caldwell, so always confirm a specific address.
Pflugerville ISD’s Find My School map lets you search any address for its current assignment. Because Windermere closes after 2026-27, also check the final 2027-28 rezoning map once the board adopts it, since every home in the current zone will be reassigned.
Programs, Feeder Schools & the Local Market
ASCEND is Pflugerville ISD’s full-time program for highly gifted 4th and 5th graders, and Windermere is the only elementary school that hosts it. Students are identified through a district screening in 3rd grade, classes are capped at 22 students per grade, and the program continues at Pflugerville Middle School for grades 6-8. The district has not yet announced where ASCEND will move after Windermere closes.
No. Windermere offers English as a Second Language support, but not dual language. Under the draft rezoning maps, bilingual-program students from the Windermere zone would be served at Highland Park, Timmerman, or Spring Hill, depending on the map adopted.
