Jarrell High School Expansion: New CTE Wing and Gym
Jarrell ISD’s May 2023 bond includes a two-phase expansion of Jarrell High School. Phase 1 added an expanded library, new front offices and entrance, an expanded fine arts wing with a new band hall and more art classrooms, and a new agriculture barn with on-site classroom space, a show ring and larger animal pens. The gate to the new barn was built by Jarrell welding students.
Phase 2 is a new Career and Technical Education wing and a new gym. The board approved its schematic design on September 18, 2024, and the district expects the building to be finished by June 2027. The CTE wing is planned to include engineering labs, robotics, construction labs, veterinary and medical space, a welding shop, a larger culinary arts kitchen, digital media and broadcasting, health science labs, animation and graphics, sports marketing, and law enforcement classrooms. The new gym will be larger than the current one and will bring the training and weight rooms into the same building.
Classroom space added under the district’s 2021 bond already gives Jarrell High room for 2,200 students; the 2023 projects focus on CTE and athletics. Project details and photos are on the district’s JHS expansion bond page.

Jarrell High School’s enrollment has nearly tripled since 2016, rising to 1,145 students in 2025-26 as the district has grown, and the campus has room for 2,200 students after its 2021 bond addition. Andrew Maddox, formerly principal of Taylor High School for seven years, has led Jarrell High since 2022. About 60 percent of students were economically disadvantaged in TEA’s 2025-26 data. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Jarrell High School earned an overall B with a score of 85, up from a C (78) in 2024-25 and matching its B (85) in 2023-24. It is the highest-rated campus in Jarrell ISD for 2025-26, and the district as a whole was rated C (74).
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): B (85)
- Student Achievement: B (86), with STAAR at 75, College, Career and Military Readiness at 93, and Graduation Rate at 95 (scaled scores); the graduation rate TEA used was 99.0 percent
- School Progress: B (86), with Academic Growth at C (72) and Relative Performance at B (86)
- Closing the Gaps: B (84)
- Improvement Status: Not identified for improvement support
- Prior Overall Ratings: C (74) in 2021-22, B (82) in 2022-23, B (85) in 2023-24, and C (78) in 2024-25
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. TEA builds the overall score from the better of Student Achievement or School Progress, weighted at 70 percent, plus Closing the Gaps at 30 percent. School Progress itself uses the better of Academic Growth or Relative Performance, which compares results with campuses that have a similar share of economically disadvantaged students.
Jarrell High’s strongest measures are College, Career and Military Readiness and its graduation rate. Its 2024-25 rating of C (78) reflects a change made on appeal. In earlier years the campus earned distinctions for Academic Achievement in Science and Top 25 percent Comparative Closing the Gaps in 2022-23, and for Postsecondary Readiness in 2023-24.
