Uhland is Hays CISD’s 14th elementary school and its farthest east. Voters approved it in the May 2017 bond, and it opened in August 2018 as a 115,000-square-foot campus that cost about $33.9 million in total. The board named it for the Uhland School, which served rural east Hays and west Caldwell counties from the 1890s to the 1950s. In 2025-26 it enrolled 776 students, with 90.3% economically disadvantaged, 78% English learners, 20.5% receiving special education services and 3.2% identified as gifted and talented. Dr. Sara Sparks is the new principal for 2026-27; she has worked in Hays CISD for nine years as an ESL specialist, assistant principal and academic dean. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.

In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Uhland Elementary received an overall F with a score of 57. That is down 23 points from a B (80) in 2024-25. Before this year, Uhland was rated B or C in every year shown: B (84) in 2021-22, C (78) in 2022-23, B (86) in 2023-24 and B (80) in 2024-25.

TEA has identified Uhland for comprehensive support and improvement based on its 2025-26 results, which means the campus works under a state-required improvement plan with district support. The campus was also identified for targeted support and improvement in 2022-23 and was no longer identified the following year. Uhland earned a Comparative Academic Growth distinction in 2021-22 and none since. It is worth knowing that the zone changed for 2025-26, the same year as this rating, and that a new principal started in 2026-27, so families should ask the campus about its improvement plan and recent progress.

Uhland Elementary Attendance Zone Map
Uhland’s 2026-27 zone covers the area east of Kyle around the town of Uhland (78640). Almost all of the zone’s home sales since September 2022 have been in three new-construction communities: Pradera, Wayside and Marigold. A few sales were in Las Estancias and other small subdivisions and rural tracts. The zone did not change in Hays CISD’s January 2026 rezoning. It did change for 2025-26, when planning units 66 and 140 moved to the new Ramage Elementary, units 98 and 139 moved to Science Hall, unit 89 moved to Fuentes, and Camino Real units 63 and 64 moved to Uhland.
The district projects the zone will grow from about 717 resident students in 2026-27 to about 1,053 by 2030-31. Hays CISD’s 18th elementary school is projected to open around August 2028, and a 4th high school and 7th middle school are now planned for 2030, so further boundary changes are likely. Confirm any address with Hays CISD’s interactive attendance zone map before buying.
