Lamont Ramage Elementary opened in August 2025 as Hays CISD’s 17th elementary school and 28th campus overall. The 117,611-square-foot, 900-seat building was funded by the $367.8 million May 2023 bond. It is named for Lamont Ramage, a longtime justice of the peace, former mayor of the City of Hays, and Hays CISD trustee from 1976 to 1988, including five years as board president. In 2025-26, its first year, it enrolled 701 students, with 67% economically disadvantaged, 32.1% English learners, 24.5% receiving special education services and 3.1% identified as gifted and talented. Yvette Soliz, who led Camino Real Elementary from 2014 until Ramage opened, is in her second year as founding principal. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Ramage Elementary earned an overall B with a score of 89 in its first rated year. Because the campus opened in August 2025, it has no earlier TEA ratings to compare with.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): B (89)
- Student Achievement: C, 74 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: A, 90 out of 100 (Academic Growth A/90, Relative Performance C/78)
- Closing the Gaps: B, 85 out of 100
- Hays CISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Ramage’s B comes mainly from School Progress, which was an A (90), driven by Academic Growth at 90. Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, was a C (78). Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, was a C (74), so the strong rating reflects how much students grew during the year more than where their scores ended up. Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, was a B (85). Ramage did not earn distinction designations in its first year, and it is not identified for state improvement support.

TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Hays CISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.
