Susie Fuentes Elementary opened in 2000 as one of three sister schools, along with Elm Grove and Hemphill. It is named for Susie Fuentes, a Kyle native who spent years at Kyle Elementary reading to and mentoring students; the community recommended her name and the board approved it unanimously. In 2018 the board approved turning Fuentes into a fine arts focus campus. Enrollment fell from 750 in 2023-24 to 487 in 2025-26 after part of the zone moved to the new Ramage Elementary in 2025. In 2025-26, TEA data show 57.7% of students were economically disadvantaged, 16.8% were emergent bilingual and 25.1% received special education services. Fuentes is one of four elementary schools getting additions and renovations from the May 2025 bond to bring it to a 900-student capacity, so expect construction on campus over the next year or two. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Fuentes Elementary earned an overall B with a score of 81. That is up 6 points from a C (75) in 2024-25 and continues a recovery from a D (67) in 2023-24. Before that, Fuentes was a B (82) in 2021-22 and a C (72) in 2022-23.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): B (81)
- Student Achievement: C, 71 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: B, 82 out of 100 (Academic Growth B/82, Relative Performance D/66)
- Closing the Gaps: C, 78 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: B (82) in 2021-22, C (72) in 2022-23, D (67) in 2023-24, C (75) in 2024-25
- Hays CISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Fuentes’s B comes from School Progress, which rose from 74 to a B (82) on the strength of Academic Growth at 82. Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, was a C (71), about the same as the year before, and Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, fell from 70 to a D (66). Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, improved from 76 to a C (78). Even with the higher overall grade, TEA identified Fuentes for additional targeted support in 2025-26, which is based on the results of specific student groups. The campus has not earned distinction designations in these years.

TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Hays CISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.
