Camino Real Elementary opened in 2008 and is named for El Camino Real, the historic King’s Highway, which roughly follows the path of the Old San Antonio Road. In 2025-26, the school enrolled 786 students, and TEA data show 81.3% were economically disadvantaged, 62.2% were emergent bilingual and 22.4% received special education services. Javier González became principal in 2025-26, replacing Yvette Soliz, who left to open Ramage Elementary. He has worked in Hays CISD since 2013 and was most recently an assistant principal at Uhland Elementary, which he helped open. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things.
