In 2025-26, Barton enrolled 1,006 students, with 30.7% economically disadvantaged, 5.6% emergent bilingual, 21.7% receiving special education services and 17.1% identified as gifted and talented, according to TEA. About 12% of students were military connected in 2024-25. Aaron Loyd returns for his seventh year as principal in 2026-27, and district projections show the zone growing from about 1,010 resident middle schoolers in 2026-27 to about 1,286 by 2030-31. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.

- Hays CISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Barton’s rating rests on Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, which has scored an A (91) in each of the last five rated years. School Progress was a B (85) in 2025-26, with Academic Growth at 85 and Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, at 83. Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, held an A (91) after a 92 the year before. Barton earned seven distinction designations in 2021-22, including ELA/Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Postsecondary Readiness, and none in the years since. The campus is not identified for state improvement support.
