Florence Elementary moved into a new building in August 2025. Voters approved it in the May 2022 bond and added $4.5 million in May 2024 after construction costs rose. The roughly 82,000-square-foot campus has 38 classrooms, science classrooms, a library, a gym, a cafeteria with a stage and two playgrounds. District leaders called it the first new school built in Florence this century. The old campus at 304 College Ave. now houses Head Start and a child care center. Enrollment was 529 students in 2025-26. In 2024-25, 62.6% of students were economically disadvantaged and 39.5% were emergent bilingual, and the campus is Title I schoolwide. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
TEA rated Florence Elementary a C (74) for 2025-26, down from a B (87) the year before. The district as a whole earned a B (85).
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): C (74)
- Student Achievement: C, 73 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: C, 76 out of 100 (Academic Growth C/76, Relative Performance C/75)
- Closing the Gaps: C, 70 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: C (70) in 2021-22, D (68) in 2022-23, D (66) in 2023-24, B (87) in 2024-25
- Florence ISD (2025-26): B (85) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Florence Elementary has moved around a lot. It was a C (70) in 2021-22, a D in both 2022-23 and 2023-24, then jumped to a B (87) in 2024-25. Superintendent Rick Kirkpatrick credited that jump to leadership changes, a back-to-basics push on sight words and math facts, and targeted help for students who were behind.
The 2025-26 rating fell back to a C, with all three domains in the low to mid 70s, and TEA identified the campus for additional targeted support (ATS) based on how specific student groups performed. Parents comparing districts should look at the trend over several years rather than any single rating, and ask the campus what its improvement plan includes.

The 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings were delayed by litigation and released in 2025. TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Florence ISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.

Sales in the district grew from 31 in Sept 2022 – Aug 2023 to 143 in the trailing 12 months, a 361% increase, almost all of it from Nolina’s builders (Chesmar, Westin, Taylor Morrison and Perry). The median sale price in the trailing 12 months, $485,000, is 1.3% above the first period’s $479,000 and 11.8% below the Sept 2024 – Aug 2025 peak of $550,000.
The 29.9% drop in median price per square foot, from $272.94 to $191.35, reflects a change in what is selling more than a drop in values. In the first period the median sale was on 2 acres of rural land. Since Sept 2024 the median lot has been about 0.17 acre in a new subdivision, with larger homes. Homes now close at 99% of list price, but the median home spends 95 days on the market, far longer than the 29 days of three years ago.
