From Bastrop Intermediate to Riverside Middle School
Riverside Middle School is the former Bastrop Intermediate School, one of Bastrop ISD’s two 6th-grade centers. Under the 2021 bond, the district converted both intermediate campuses into comprehensive middle schools for grades 6 through 8, and trustees approved the new name, the Grizzlies mascot and the school colors on April 15, 2025. The campus opened as Riverside Middle in fall 2025. If you previously visited our Bastrop Intermediate School page, this page replaces it.
2025-26 was a transition year. The campus served 6th and 7th graders that year, and those 7th graders returned in 2026-27 as the school’s first 8th graders, so this is the first year Riverside serves all three middle school grades. The bond conversion covers a competition gym, weight room, locker rooms, an athletic field and track, music, drama and art spaces and science labs; in mid-2025 the district expected the renovations to be finished around the middle of the 2025-26 school year, and its bond page still listed some items as in progress.
Keep the TEA ratings in context. The 2024-25 rating (C, 77) was issued to Bastrop Intermediate as a 6th-grade campus that tested only reading and math. The 2025-26 rating (D, 65) was issued under the Riverside Middle name, and TEA’s data show reading and math tests only, with no 8th-grade science or social studies tests, because the campus did not yet have 8th graders. Neither rating reflects a full 6-8 campus. The 2026-27 rating, expected in August 2027, will be the first.

Michelle Nicholas is the principal; her 2026-27 welcome letter mentions new clubs, sports and activities as the campus grows into a full middle school, and the campus motto is Grizzlies rise with knowledge, character, and excellence. Enrollment was 717 in 2025-26, and about 57 percent of students were economically disadvantaged. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Riverside Middle School earned an overall D with a score of 65, and TEA identified the campus for comprehensive support and improvement. That rating covers the 2025-26 transition year, when the campus served grades 6 and 7. In 2024-25, as Bastrop Intermediate, a 6th-grade campus, it earned a C (77).
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): D (65)
- Student Achievement: C, 71 out of 100 (based on STAAR reading and math)
- School Progress: D, 66 out of 100 (Academic Growth D/64, Relative Performance D/66)
- Closing the Gaps: F, 51 out of 100
- Improvement Status: Identified for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI)
- Prior Overall Ratings (as Bastrop Intermediate, grade 6): C (78) in 2021-22, D (65) in 2022-23, D (64) in 2023-24, and C (77) in 2024-25
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. TEA builds the overall score from the better of Student Achievement or School Progress, weighted at 70 percent, plus Closing the Gaps at 30 percent. School Progress itself uses the better of Academic Growth or Relative Performance, which compares results with campuses that have a similar share of economically disadvantaged students.
Student Achievement, a C at 71, was the strongest part of the 2025-26 rating, while Closing the Gaps, which looks at how individual student groups perform, was an F. Comprehensive support and improvement (CSI) is the most intensive federal identification TEA uses, given to campuses whose overall performance is among the lowest in the state; the campus then writes and carries out an improvement plan with district oversight. The campus posts its Targeted Improvement Plan on its website. As Bastrop Intermediate, the campus was identified for targeted support and improvement in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2024-25, and for additional targeted support in 2023-24. Targeted support and improvement (TSI) is a federal identification TEA gives a campus when one or more student groups consistently underperform on the state’s measures; the campus then writes and carries out an improvement plan. Additional targeted support (ATS) is a federal identification TEA gives a campus when at least one student group performs at a level comparable to the state’s lowest-performing campuses; the campus then writes and carries out an improvement plan.

TEA’s ratings for 2022-23 and 2023-24 were released late, in 2025, after litigation over the rating system, and 2021-22 ratings labeled scores below 70 as Not Rated under Senate Bill 1365. Ratings through 2024-25 were issued as BASTROP INT for a 6th-grade campus; the 2025-26 rating was issued as RIVERSIDE MIDDLE for the grade 6-7 transition year. TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Bastrop ISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.

Riverside Middle School Attendance Zone Map
For 2026-27, Riverside Middle School’s zone covers all of the Emile and Lost Pines Elementary zones, including Tahitian Village, Pine Forest, most of Circle D and Circle D East, Lake Bastrop Acres and the Lake Bastrop area, the Paige area and Holiday Hills. It also takes in Riverside Grove from the Colony Oaks zone and the older streets of central Bastrop from the Mina zone, such as Hill, Pecan, Wilson, Cedar, Farm, Main, Water and Fayette Streets. Bastrop ISD does not offer an address lookup tool, so check the 2026-2027 middle school attendance zone map on the Bastrop ISD school boundaries and maps page and confirm a specific address with the district.
Neighborhoods north and northeast of downtown in the Mina zone, such as Pine View, Piney Ridge and Piney Creek Bend, go to Bastrop Middle School instead, as does the small part of Circle D zoned to Mina Elementary. Riverside Grove is zoned to Riverside even though the rest of the Colony Oaks zone goes to Bastrop Middle or Creekside Middle. The current boundaries were adopted by Bastrop ISD trustees in January 2025 and cover the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years. Older MLS listings in this area may still show Bastrop Intermediate or Bastrop Middle as the middle school.
Homes Zoned to Riverside Middle School: Market Stats
The figures below cover single-family homes in Bastrop ISD sold through Unlock MLS whose addresses fall inside Riverside Middle School’s official 2026-27 attendance zone. Rather than relying on the school name typed into each listing, we geocoded every Bastrop ISD sale and tested it against the district’s own zone maps. That matters here because the 2025 rezoning, which came with Adelton’s opening and the middle-school conversions, left many listings carrying old school names, for example homes now zoned to Adelton or Colony Oaks still tagged Mina or Bluebonnet, and older listings that predate Riverside and Creekside Middle Schools carry no middle school name for them at all. Tahitian Village accounts for most sales in the zone, followed by Circle D, Riverside Grove, the Lake Bastrop area and Pine Forest.
