Camino Real Elementary opened in August 2023 alongside Colony Oaks Elementary, the first new Bastrop ISD schools since 2009. The two are identical campuses built under the 2021 bond for just over $64 million combined, each designed for 750 students. Camino Real’s 2025-26 enrollment of 954 was above that design capacity and up about 29 percent from 2024. The school is named for El Camino Real, the Spanish colonial-era Royal Road that Highway 21 follows through Bastrop County. Jacqueline Dixon, previously an assistant principal at Lost Pines Elementary, was named principal in May 2026, succeeding founding principal Dr. Augustina Lozano. In 2025-26 about 96 percent of students were Hispanic and about 69 percent were economically disadvantaged. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Camino Real Elementary earned an overall F with a score of 57, down from a D (69) in 2024-25. Its first rating, for 2023-24, was an F (55). TEA identified the campus for comprehensive support and improvement in 2025-26.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): F (57)
- Student Achievement: F, 52 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: F, 58 out of 100 (Academic Growth F/58, Relative Performance F/51)
- Closing the Gaps: F, 56 out of 100
- Improvement Status: Identified for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI)
- Prior Overall Ratings: F (55) in 2023-24 and D (69) in 2024-25. The campus opened in August 2023, so it has no earlier ratings
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. TEA builds the overall score from the better of Student Achievement or School Progress, weighted at 70 percent, plus Closing the Gaps at 30 percent. School Progress itself uses the better of Academic Growth or Relative Performance, which compares results with campuses that have a similar share of economically disadvantaged students.
Camino Real’s strongest year so far was 2024-25, when Closing the Gaps reached a C (71) and the overall score reached 69. In 2025-26 every domain fell in the F range. Comprehensive support and improvement (CSI) is a federal identification TEA gives to the state’s lowest-performing campuses, such as the bottom 5 percent of Title I campuses; the campus then writes and carries out an improvement plan. TEA identified Camino Real for CSI in 2023-24 and again in 2025-26, and listed it as a CSI progress school in 2024-25. Bastrop ISD as a whole remained a C in 2025-26.

TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Bastrop ISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.

Homes Zoned to Camino Real Elementary: Market Stats
The figures below cover single-family homes in Bastrop ISD sold through Unlock MLS whose addresses fall inside Camino Real Elementary’s official 2026-27 attendance zone. Rather than relying on the school name typed into each listing, we geocoded every Bastrop ISD sale and tested it against the district’s own zone maps. That matters because the 2025 rezoning and the middle-school conversions left many listings carrying old school names, and older listings have no Creekside Middle School zone to point to. Camino Real’s zone has relatively few sales each year, so medians can swing from period to period. The zone’s largest neighborhoods by sales are Los Milagros and Twin Creeks, followed by El Dorado, Monterrey Hills and Rio Vista Ranch.
