Webb opened in 1968 and is named for historian Walter Prescott Webb. Under Austin ISD’s 2022 bond it is getting a school mental health center, community rooms, outdoor learning improvements and a secure entry, and from fall 2024 through spring 2026 it hosted Wooten Elementary in portables while Wooten was rebuilt. In 2025-26, Webb enrolled 429 students, with 92.3% economically disadvantaged, 79.2% emergent bilingual and 23.5% receiving special education services. Austin ISD and TCIS ended their planned SB 1882 partnership for Webb, Burnet and Dobie as of July 31, 2026, so Austin ISD runs Webb directly in 2026-27. GreatSchools and TEA measure different things. GreatSchools weighs test results against schools with similar student populations, while TEA’s rating, below, is the state’s official accountability measure.
Academic Performance: Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating
In TEA’s 2025-26 accountability ratings, released in August 2026, Webb Middle School received a preliminary overall F with a score of 58, down 1 point from an F (59) in 2024-25. Webb was also rated F in 2022-23 (59) and 2023-24 (54), and it was not rated in 2021-22 under Senate Bill 1365.
- Overall TEA Rating (2025-26): F (58)
- Student Achievement: F, 50 out of 100 (based on STAAR performance)
- School Progress: F, 57 out of 100 (Academic Growth F/57, Relative Performance F/53)
- Closing the Gaps: D, 61 out of 100
- Prior Overall Ratings: Not Rated (Senate Bill 1365) in 2021-22, F (59) in 2022-23, F (54) in 2023-24, F (59) in 2024-25
- Austin ISD (2025-26): B (81) district-wide
Under TEA’s scale, an A reflects exemplary performance, B is recognized, C is acceptable, D needs improvement, and F is unacceptable. Webb’s scores have stayed in the F range across the board. Student Achievement, the share of students meeting STAAR standards, has been an F at 49 or 50 in each of the last four rated years. School Progress was an F (57), with Academic Growth at 57 and Relative Performance, which compares results with schools serving similar shares of economically disadvantaged students, at 53. Closing the Gaps, which measures results for student groups, fell from a C (70) to a D (61). Webb earned no distinction designations from 2022-23 through 2025-26, and TEA identified it for comprehensive support and improvement in 2025-26.
The 2025-26 rating is preliminary, and the final rating is expected in December 2026. If Webb’s fifth consecutive F becomes final, state law requires the education commissioner to either close Webb or replace Austin ISD’s elected board with a board of managers. Austin ISD has appealed the rating.

The 2022-23 and 2023-24 ratings were delayed by litigation and released in 2025. TEA issues updated ratings annually, so verify the current rating directly with Austin ISD or TEA before making a decision based on it.
