Gypsy Picnic Food Truck Festival

October 21, 2011 By Rebecca Jacks

Tomorrow is Austin’s 2nd Annual Gypsy Picnic. Last year’s festival was dubbed “The Festival of Lines” because there was so much interest and not enough vendors. This year, organizers have brought out 35 food trucks to cover the crowds.

Sample Austin’s Best Food Trucks

Each of the trucks will have a sample menu item that will be priced around $3.00 so festival attendees don’t have to limit themselves to one or two trucks. Most of these trucks are scattered throughout Austin, so this is a great place to try some of the trucks you wouldn’t necessarily visit at their regular location.

Here is a map of the vendors so you can plan which trucks you want to add to your list.

Festival Admission is FREE!

It costs nothing to get into Gypsy Picnic. All you have to do is pay for the food you decide to try. Remember to bring cash as most trucks only accept cash.

Activities for Kids

There will also be several organized activities for kids (face painting, story time and slideshow acts), so you don’t have to worry about keeping them entertained while you try the food.

Where is Gypsy Picnic?

Gypsy Picnic will be held at Auditorium Shores which is between S 1st and South Lamar Blvd directly south of Lady Bird Lake. Its marked with the pin on the interactive map below.

Parking is Limited

Try to take public transportation or ride a bike to this year’s festival as there will be 8 other events at the same time Downtown. If you want to drive, I’d suggest parking in one of the lots Downtown and walking across the lake or parking somewhere in 78704 and walking. There is no parking near the venue, so plan accordingly.

Enjoy the Festival for Lunch, Dinner or Both!

The festival is open from 11am-8pm so its perfect for lunch, dinner or both!
